New post-polypectomy and post-colorectal cancer resection surveillance guidelines

The British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) is asking CCGs to support trusts with a colonoscopy service to implement new guidance on polyp surveillance.

Expert clinical opinion suggests that full implementation of the guidance could reduce the demand for surveillance colonoscopy in symptomatic services by up to 70% and support trusts to maintain service availability over winter. The BSG has worked with cancer alliances to get trusts with a colonoscopy service to nominate a consultant surveillance lead with implementation of the guidance in their job plan by 30 September 2020. Public Health England has sent separate communications to screening services.
