New funding for social prescribing initiatives

The Department of Health (DH) has launched a new £5 million fund to support local health and care partnerships to develop social prescribing – an intervention through which people are supported to access non-medical services in the community.

Through this programme, the DH, NHS England and Public Health England are working with voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations to promote equality and address health inequalities. £300,000 is available this year to VCSEs who meet the assessment criteria. Further information about the fund and how to apply is available on the DH’s website. The deadline for applications is 21 November 2017.
