National bodies make senior IT appointments

NHS England and NHS Improvement have announced three key appointments to help transform how the NHS uses technology and information.

Keith McNeil, former Addenbrooke’s chief executive, becomes the NHS’s first chief clinical information officer; Will Smart, chief information officer at the Royal Free Hospital, is to take the role of NHS CIO; Juliet Bauer, who led the project to take Times Newspapers online, is director of digital experience, in which role she will oversee a revamp of NHS Choices and develop technology for “supported self-management” for patients.
