More compensation for victims of infected blood scandal
The Department of Health and Social Care has announced increased compensation for the thousands of victims of the infected blood tragedy.
The announcement, timed to coincide with the start of public hearings into the scandal, means that annual payments for those affected will increase.
The fund set up to support them has increased from a total of £46 million to £75 million. Recipients, including bereaved spouses and partners, could also be eligible for further financial support through means-tested discretionary top-up payments.
