Market entry and the new pharmaceutical services regulations

The NHS (Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2012 which came into effect on 1 September have changed the basis for applications for new or additional pharmacy or dispensing appliance contractor premises.

Applications will be based on current or future needs, improvements or better access to pharmaceutical services included in a PCT’s pharmaceutical needs assessment (PNA).  Alternatively they may offer benefits that were not foreseen when the PNA was written. How PCTs process applications remains largely the same, but there have been some key changes that will affect both applicants and existing contractors.

Following our highly successful series of events for PCTs, PCC is now running additional events for anyone with an interest in understanding the new regulations and how they will be applied. These are on 8 November in Leeds and on 15 November in London.
