Long-term sustainability of the NHS and adult social care
A parliamentary report into the sustainability of the health and care system in England heavily criticises the failure of successive governments to plan for the future of the system.
The committee argues that a new political consensus on the future of the health and care system is needed and that this should emerge as a result of government-initiated cross-party talks. The report recommends the Department of Health should have the national budget for system and the implementation of recommendations of the Dilnot Commission. Public health budget cuts and the lack of long-term workforce planning also come under fire.
