Local authorities told to get developers to address air pollution

NICE has published a quality standard urging local authorities to put pressure on building developers to tackle air pollution.

Local authorities should consider how buildings and other physical barriers will affect the distribution of air pollution, it says. The new quality standard also suggests that schools and care homes should not be sited in areas where pollution levels may be high to reduce the impact on vulnerable groups.
