Investment targets mental health dormitory accommodation

The first 21 NHS trusts to benefit from a move to replace mental health dormitory accommodation with single rooms have been announced as part of a £400 million investment over four years to improve patients’ privacy and safety.

Around 1,200 inpatient beds in mental health inpatient units are still provided in dormitories.

The funding was part of a package of measures the Department of Health and Social Care announced on World Mental Health Day. Others included further research into the impact of COVID-19 on mental health. More….
