Homeshare schemes deliver improved outcomes for older people

Homeshare is set to play a much greater role in helping the NHS deliver improved outcomes for older people.

A sustainable model for the NHS, homeshare, has credentials dating back almost 40 years, and is enabling healthcare professionals to support independent living for an ageing population, cost-effectively. The pandemic has driven a heightened interest in homeshare especially for vulnerable, older patients with lower level needs before they reach crisis point.  Homeshare is helping to avoid unnecessary placements in nursing or residential care and instead provide the level and type of support that older people really need.  Its impact on the health and social care economy is significant; reducing use of A&E, lowering hospital admissions, and reducing use of other services such as mental health, respite care, and patient transport.
