Health and local government urged to sign up to community development charter

Leading thinkers and practitioners in participation and engagement are urging decision-makers responsible for health, social care and local government to sign up to a charter for community development in health

The document sets out the benefits to commissioners and others of involving communities more effectively in local decisions about health, arguing that it will help agencies to discharge their duty to improve health and wellbeing at a time of financial constraint. According to the charter, “We now have robust evidence that involving individuals and communities in defining problems and solutions with statutory agencies leads to better outcomes, often at lower cost.”
