Handling of tramadol in health and justice sites

NHS England has issued guidance to health providers and commissioners on the handling of tramadol as a result of changes in the Misuse of Drugs Act (1971) and the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 that come into force on 10 June 2014.

This change re-classified tramadol as a Schedule 3 controlled drug. The guidance set out he legislative requirements and provisions for safe access to this medicine by patients resident in HM prisons, young offender institutions, immigration removal centres, secure training centres and secure children’s homes.
