Guideline on diabetes and surgery

Management of Adults With Diabetes Undergoing Surgery and Elective Procedures: Improving Standards aims to raise standards of care for people with diabetes undergoing operative or investigative procedures requiring a period without food.

The guideline, which has already attracted international interest, is essential for those responsible at every stage of the pathway for the care of surgical patients with diabetes. It has seven sections, outlining the roles and responsibilities of each group of healthcare professionals at each stage of the patient’s journey. The evidence base for the recommendations, discussion of controversial areas and references are provided in the report.
