Guidance to tackle restraint

Since last year’s guidance on minimising restrictive practices was developed, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the NHS Confederation's Mental Health Network have been working on new guidance into the implications for providers and the best way to review this through new inspection methods.

Following their guidance, the Positive and Safe programme that relates to all adult health sectors, was launched by the Department of Health.

Through their work, CQC and the NHS Confederation hope that providers will be clearer about what is expected of them and how progress will be monitored.
