False fears preventing smokers from using e-cigarettes to quit

Influenced by reports from the US, over half of smokers in the UK believe nicotine vaping products are as or more harmful than smoking tobacco.

While medical advice is that all forms of smoking are potentially harmful, Public Health England is keen to dispel growing myths around vaping, which is still considered the safer option, and points out that vaping related deaths in the US may have been caused by substances that are banned in the UK. PHE has published its sixth report on e-cigarettes. The report provides an update on the use of nicotine vaping products among young people and adults, and public perceptions of the harmfulness of vaping. It also takes an in depth look at the evidence on e-cigarette use in people with mental health conditions and pregnant women.
