Failing the frail: a chaotic approach to commissioning healthcare services for care homes

This report is an analysis of data collected by the Care Quality Commission about PCT support for the healthcare of older people living within nursing and residential care homes.

Overall the report outlines concerns about the standard of and access to healthcare of older people in England who live in care homes, who typically have greater and more complex health needs than their peers who live in the community. The report suggests that improvements in access to healthcare will benefit this population and reduce unplanned and costly demands on the NHS.
