DH tells GPs to stop prescribing antivirals for flu
The Department of Health’s chief medical officer, chief scientific adviser and chief pharmaceutical officer have advised that GPs and non-medical prescribers should no longer prescribe, at NHS expense, antiviral medicines for the prophylaxis and treatment of influenza in primary care.
Antivirals may still be used by doctors in secondary care in situations where a flu-related illness requires hospitalisation. More ....
