The National Imaging Board has been on reducing waiting times for imaging services in line with the 18 weeks target. The focus is now on sustaining these low waits along with addressing wider diagnostic imaging issues to improve the quality of services, and enhance the patient experience. The National Imaging Board was tasked to undertake this piece of work jointly by the National Clinical Director for Women's and Children's Services and Dr Erika Denton to inform commissioners and identify how service providers can offer high quality, innovative, paediatric imaging services.
The importance of specialist imaging services for children and young adults has been recognised for many years. This report describes the structure of services that should be commissioned to support the provision of effective paediatric imaging.
