Covid-19 dental preparedness

NHS England and Improvement and the office of the chief dental officer published their fourth dental preparedness letter on 15 April 2020.

The letter covers four main areas.  Firstly, urgent dental care systems (UDCs) should now be in place using a standard operating procedure. Routine care should not be provided by local practices but telephone triage and consultation should be offered with potential referral to UDCs. Secondly, PPE supply for UDCs has been clarified. Thirdly, following the excellent response of dentists for redeployment, arrangements are being put in place and managed locally.  Finally, the letter provides clarification about support for NHS and private income, how year-end 2019/20 would be managed and when patient charges should be made. PCC has summarised the letter in this short presentation.
