Consortia funding allocations uneven, says NAPC

Notwithstanding press reports demanding major changes to the health and social care bill, the National Association of Primary Care (NAPC) remains convinced that GPs, with their patients and local populations, will be central to the future commissioning agenda

The alternatives have been shown to be largely unsuccessful.

NAPC is currently receiving reports from around the country that some primary care trusts (PCTs) have already allocated the £2 per head, identified as a minimum level in the Operating Framework for 2011/12,to support the development of emerging GP commissioning consortia. However, some have reduced the level of this support by applying a weighted capitation rather than a crude population approach, and others have still to allocate the resource.
