Changes to criminal record checks
The type of information obtained as part of a criminal record certificate has now changed. The changes follow the Home Office’s introduction of a new filtering system for disclosing information on criminal convictions and cautions.
The new arrangements came into effect from 29 May 2013, which mean that certain old and minor cautions and convictions will no longer be disclosed in a criminal record certificate from this date.
This follows a Court of Appeal judgment that the disclosure of all convictions and cautions in a criminal record certificate contravened European Convention on Human Rights legislation.
