Buttonhole needle technique supports self-care and home dialysis

NHS Kidney Care has published a new how-to guide that explores how to use the “buttonhole” technique.

This is a way of inserting a needle for dialysis, but unlike other methods of cannulation, it allows dull (blunt) needles to be used.

The how-to guide describes how Sussex Kidney Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton has introduced buttonholing for their dialysis patients, and is seeing greater patient satisfaction and an increase in self-care and dialysis at home as a result.
