BMA agrees new GP contract deal: 2020/21-2023/24

NHS England and the BMA have agreed significant revisions to the GP contract agreement 2020/21 to 2023/24.

Highlights of the deal, which was the subject of  negotiations after GPs rejected the draft service specifications published in late December and raised concerns about other aspects of the contract, are: the inclusion of several new roles that can be funded under the additional roles reimbursement scheme; full funding of all roles from April and arrangements to reduce the risk to PCN member practices of redundancy costs; reduction in the number of service specifications PCNs will need to meet from this year and significant changes to their provisions (including dropping the requirement that care home visits must be carried out by GPs and watering down of structured medication reviews in recognition of problems recruiting pharmacists in some areas); a £20,000 one-off payment to encourage GPs to become partners and a 4% increase to the global sum.  More....
