Amendments to the Mental Health Act 1983

NHS England and NHS Improvement have jointly written a letter to CCGs, providers and regions informing them the government has confirmed that changes to sections 135 and 136 of the Mental Health Act 1983 will come into effect on 11 December 2017.

These sections relate to police powers of detention under the act. The amendments carry important implications for local NHS, policing and local authority partners, who need to work together to prepare adequately for their commencement. More....
