What?
Media awareness training for healthcare commissioners and provider organisations. A full-day workshop.

Who should attend?
Suitable for directors, board members and staff whose role may include working with the press. A useful refresher for staff with communications roles and essential background training for anyone who needs to understand media relations, whether or not their roles include regular contact with the media.

Why attend?
Senior managers and those involved in external communications need to understand the impact of the media on organisational strategy, how to build effective relationships, how to avoid media crises (or manage them when they can’t be avoided) and the role of media in wider communications and engagement strategies.

Outcomes
You will learn how journalists work, what motivates them, how to improve your chances of positive coverage and what to do when things go wrong. You will practice what you learn in group sessions using realistic scenarios. There will also be opportunities to question our experts.

What’s different about this course?
Our trainers have experience of working in journalism and/or in senior communications roles in the NHS. We also work with NHS organisations on other areas of commissioning and provider development, so we understand the NHS and the health policy context. Unlike generic media training, all the examples used will be familiar and relevant to your role. Your fellow delegates come from similar backgrounds, enhancing the group exercises and allowing the group to draw on common experiences and knowledge.
