Urgent and emergency care services are facing profound pressures and, although capacity issues are most visible in acute hospitals and their emergency departments, fundamental changes across health and social care are required to create a sustainable and high-quality urgent and emergency care system.

Providing an opportunity for you to come together with colleagues who have a stake in redesigning the urgent and emergency care system, this conference will share ideas and insight into how the system can change to better manage the rising demand for emergency care.

The Urgent and Emergency Care Review in action

Professor Sir Bruce Keogh’s review of urgent and emergency care proposed a number of changes to the system to help it cope with the pressure it is under. At the conference you’ll hear about and learn from local NHS systems that are implementing these changes, including:

  • Implementing the urgent and emergency care network in West Yorkshire
Gaynor Connor, Director, West Yorkshire Urgent and Emergency Care Network

  • Clinically-led service redesign: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital – a new era in emergency care
Dr Chris Biggin, Emergency Medicine Consultant and Clinical Director of Emergency Care, The Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

  • How urgent care centres can ease the pressure on emergency departments whilst also being a cost-effective solution for commissioners
Dr Sally Johnson, Medical Director, Greenbrook Healthcare.
