Most of us will suffer work-related stress – and the problem is most acute for public sector staff, particularly those in the NHS.

This was one of the conclusions of a 2018 report by New Economics Foundation, which produced some startling statistics. In the UK in 2016/17:

526,000 workers suffered work-related stress, depression or anxiety
The cost to the economy was up to £43bn
Stress resulted in 165,800 hospital bed days at a cost of £71m
74% of people reported feeling unable to cope and a third said they had felt suicidal.
This online training session from PCC will show you how to understand the things that cause you stress (“stressors”) and how to become more stress-resistant.

Most people are faced with increasing complexity and rising workload, and report a poor work/life balance as they struggle to reconcile work priorities with home or family commitments.

You may not be able to avoid all the causes of stress, but you can become better at recognising them and at building up your reserves of resilience to mitigate the effects of stress.

The session focuses on how to develop awareness of your stressors and practical methods for maintaining a deep “resilience well”. The second half of the session provides an opportunity to put what you’ve learnt about your personal resilience into practice and apply it to your own work/life situation.

Delegates should expect to leave understanding:

What depletes and replenishes their resilience
How to recognise and deal with their personal stressors
How to increase their overall stress-resistance and come back from adversity
How the right team dynamics and awareness of others can alleviate stress for everyone.
