Rising indemnity costs have been seen as a key factor in the escalating workforce crisis, causing many GPs to reduce the sessions they work or quit the profession altogether.

After years of complaints about the issue from general practice the government has finally responded. The announcement of changes to the GP contract for 2019/20 was accompanied by the news that a state-backed indemnity scheme covering all general practice, including out of hours services.

GPs and other staff delivering primary medical services are expected to welcome the new scheme, but they need to know what it will and will not cover – for example non-NHS private work.

This webinar, led by a lawyer from health sector legal specialists Hill Dickinson, provides an overview of its provisions including:

  • What will the rules mean in practice?
  • What are the implications for primary care networks – and how will the new scheme address the increased risk created by collaborative working?
  • How much protection will healthcare professionals now be able to take for granted and what will not be covered under the state scheme?

The webinar, at 12.30-13.15 on Tuesday 22 October 2019 is free to attend for commissioners with a support contract with PCC and representatives from their member practices.
