The workshop reminds staff how to listen and respond in a way that empowers patients.  It discourages staff from ‘fixing’ and demonstrates how to work with the patient’s own ideas first.

Level:  It is suitable for all levels of health, social care and other staff, who have either clinical or non-clinical roles, including nurses and midwives, doctors, health and care professionals, managerial and administrative staff.

Why attend?

  • The workshop fits with sections 2 and 3 of ‘The Code: Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses and midwives’ (2015) and domain 3 of the ‘GMC: Good Medical Practice’ (2013) for doctors.
  • It meets four of the ‘6Cs’: care, compassion, competence and communication.
  • The communication skills taught can be used when delivering the Five new Priorities for Care for dying patients.
