Throughout the country, many public sector teams, services and departments are considering whether to 'spin-out' and form social enterprises to carry out their services.

The government is supportive of these moves and has recently reaffirmed its aspiration that by 2016 over one million public sector workers would be working within employee owned mutuals. Plus, the continuing cuts make the opportunity to 'spin-out' a very realistic if not imperative, option for many services that are likely to be under the knife.

The act of transition, however, is not always easy. The biggest challenge facing public sector 'spin outs' is a lack of fundamental knowledge on how/where to start.

In response to this, the Guardian has produced a half day seminar for aspiring public sector employee social entrepreneurs. Delegates can engage with expert advisers, those who have successfully made the transition and peers undergoing a similar process as themselves.
