NHS England, with support from Primary Care Commissioning (PCC), are arranging a number of events to inform primary medical services commissioners of key points and updates contained in the revised policy and guidance manual due in autumn 2017.  There is no fee for commissioners.

CCGs are increasingly taking over delegated responsibility for the commissioning and contract management of primary medical services. If not handled correctly these functions can be time consuming, costly and in some cases lead to challenge.

Introduction to the Primary Medical Care Policy and Guidance Manual (PGM)

This event covers the key aspects of the general duties under delegation, primary care commissioning, contracts and how to apply changes if or when necessary.  These are outlined in NHS England’s recently revised and now entitled Primary Medical Care Policy and Guidance Manual (PGM).  This includes the regulations required to manage and govern these contracts properly.

The PGM also underpins NHS England’s commitment to a single operating model for primary care, a consistent approach to support commissioners of primary medical care to operate to one standard.

This event will familiarise commissioners with the PGM and improve their understanding of:

  • Excellent primary care commissioning
  • General principles of contract management
  • What to do when things don’t go as planned or are unexpected
