Mixed Methods in Research
Through a mixture of lectures and workshops, this one-day course will:
- Discuss the long-standing “dichotomy” between quantitative and qualitative methods, and explore how these can be compatible when conducting mixed methods research
- Explore the relevance of mixed methods designs for healthcare research and complex interventions
- Explore the rationale behind “mixing” methods
- Present the key taxonomies of mixed methods designs
- Explore the epistemological underpinnings of mixed methods designs (pragmatism)
- Provide a wider content for mixed methods research and link this to the
Medical Research Council (MRC) Framework, and the principles of Implementation Science
- Discuss the practicalities of designing and conducting mixed methods research as well as presenting related findings
