The London North and South branches of the Infection Prevention Society are delighted to announce their joint conference which is taking place at the Kia Oval in London on Thursday 11th May 2017. The event is free for IPS members* and £40 to non-members.

The event features prominent speakers within infection prevention and covers topics which focus on past, current and emerging infection control challenges including: urinary tract infections, multi drug resistant pseudomonas outbreak, quality premiums, environmental decontamination, C. Difficile – are we there yet? and Candida auris an emerging resistant organism. The day will be opened by Neil Wigglesworth, IPS President.

This day will be of interest to infection prevention and control practitioners, matrons/team leaders, managers of nursing and residential homes, link nurses in the community, inpatient and residential settings, staff and district nurses, adult and social care staff, student nurses and domestic/house keeper supervisors. This list does not exclude any other healthcare professional with an interest in preventing and controlling infection.

The theme of this year's programme is “Something Old, Something New” with sessions including:

  • “Do Unto Others”: Dr Neil Wigglesworth, IPS President and DPIC Guys and St Thomas Foundation Trust
  • Outbreak of MDT Pseudomonas in a teaching hospital: Martin Sill, Brighton and Sussex University NHS Trust
  • MDR Gram negatives and decontamination: Peter Hoffman, Consultant Clinical Scientist, Public Health England
  • Escherichia coli Quality Premium: Linda Dempster, Head of Infection Control - South, NHS Improvement
  • First hospital outbreak of the globally emerging Candida auris in a European hospital: Dr Silke Schelenz, Consultant in Microbiology and Infection Control Royal Brompton Hospital, Senior Clinical Lecturer Imperial College
  • 'Going oui-oui over pee': Rose Gallagher MBE, Interim Head Standards Knowledge and Information Team and Professional Lead Infection Prevention and Control
  • C. Difficile – are we there yet? Martin Kiernan, Visiting Clinical Fellow, Richard Wells Research Centre, University of West London  and Clinical Director, GAMA Healthcare

Registration opens at 8:45am, with first sessions starting at 9:30am. The day will finish at 3:55pm and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

*Free registration is offered to 80 IPS members on a first-come-first-served basis. The charge for non-members is £40. Members who miss out on the free places can still register to attend at the non-member rate of £40. Please note appropriate checks will be made to validate the registration of all free places.
