The aspirations of the NHS to develop new care models that deliver patient-centred services and the efficiencies demanded by the financial challenge will only be realised if commissioners embrace new contracting and payment methods and work with providers in different ways.

Commissioners need to understand the mechanics of the NHS standard contract – as the main contracting tool for new care models – the legal forms under which providers will come together. They also need to understand how to use the contract to influence and change behaviours.

Jointly delivered by PCC and Capsticks, this event will help commissioners and senior managers in CCGs to understand how to develop system solutions rather than piecemeal services.

The event is also relevant for local authority commissioners, who also have the option to use the NHS standard contract, and for provider organisations who need to understand the implications of providing services under the contract.

The event uses examples of successful deployment of the contract, highlighting alternatives to existing routes and innovative approaches. It will explore ways in which the contract can be used to overcome barriers associated with contracting with a number of providers holding different contracts.
