Great managers are admired, good to be around, and make things happen. They understand their role, and engage with organisational objectives and their people with equal ability and confidence.

Many people find themselves promoted into management or supervisory positions because they’re good at something. That’s great. Unfortunately, they’re not often good at management.

Management is not about doing the things you are good at, but about getting things done through other people. That’s a different skillset and not one we’re born with.

However, most professionals are also fast learners, and this workshop is designed with them in mind. The essential skills of managing are shared in an engaging but practical style, prioritising those issues which typically go badly wrong for first-timers left to their own devices.

The programme is fast-paced, and will give you the opportunity to assess your managerial strengths, understand your opportunities for self-development, and equip you with a personal strategy to get the best out of yourself as an inspiring manager - ready to build a success culture with your team.

We will cover the following:

  • Understanding the difference between managerial and non-managerial work
  • The role of the manager: key activities and areas of focus
  • Management styles – a range of possibilities
  • Understanding your people: personality style and motivation
  • Your people – building a team
  • Engaging with others: confident, purposeful and effective communications
  • Making the best use of your scarcest resource – time
  • The need for continuing professional development – identifying your needs and developing an action plan
