In May NHS England updated the Policy and Guidance Manual. The manual for medical contracting provides essential information for contracting teams responsible for GMS, PMS and APMS, the primary medical services contracts.

This workshop from PCC provides a useful refresher and update for existing teams and a timely introduction to the subject for new commissioning staff, helping commissioners to avoid the risk of time-consuming and costly challenges to primary medical contracts.

Staying abreast of the latest guidance is vital in light of the2019/20 GP contract and introduction of the network contract DES.

The updated workshops build on the success of the original series of events run by PCC on behalf of NHS England in late 2017 shortly after the introduction of the first edition of the Policy and Guidance Manual.

Delegates said of the original events:

  • “A very helpful insight into the policy manual”
  • “Excellent delivery and very relevant to my role”
  • “Very informative and clearly presented”

The updated event will focus on key aspects of the Policy and Guidance Manual to clarify the regulations and accompanying guidance. The workshop uses scenarios and opportunities for questions to give commissioners a better understanding of contracting and patient-related matters including:

  • Overview of background and context
  • Contract type and eligibility
  • Contract variations, mergers and novation
  • Patients: areas, list and other arrangements
  • Contract management and disputes.

You can’t afford to miss this event if you have direct responsibility or oversight of the management of primary medical contracts in a CCG or if you work in an NHS England team providing support to CCGs in their new delegated roles.
