This workshop looks at how decisions should be made on applications for inclusion in a pharmaceutical list.

While the risk of appeal to the NHS Litigation Authority’s Family Health Services Appeal Unit can never be totally eliminated, ensuring that decisions are made in an open, robust and transparent manner will reduce the risk of decisions being overturned on appeal.

The workshop is aimed at members of the pharmaceutical services regulations committee and those staff who are involved in processing applications, preparing the reports for the committee and the taking of minutes.

The day is a mix of theory and practical application, and real applications will be used as far as possible.

After attending this day delegates will be able to identify:

  • The criteria against which the most common types of applications are to be assessed and will have had the opportunity to apply these in a “safe” environment
  • The pitfalls they may come across if applications are not processed correctly
  • The information they will require to determine an application
  • How to ensure that all decisions are robust and fully documented
  • How third-party rights of appeal are to be given.

Delegates are asked to bring a copy of the NHS (Pharmaceutical and Local Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2013 and amending regulations with them.
