SHAPE Atlas mapping tool

As the themes of the NHS Long Term Plan start to become reality through plans for legislation to support integration, we need to work out where the best place is to deliver services.

Public Health England’s SHAPE (Strategic Health Asset Planning and Evaluation) Place Atlas is a free to access mapping tool which is available online and will help with the strategic planning of services and physical assets across a whole health economy; across STPs, CCGs and PCNs as well as ICS’ moving forward.

You can compare the health needs and demands against where health care sites and services are located, to help answer the question “are the correct services in the correct location?”

It links national data sets, public health, primary care, environmental and demographic data with information on healthcare estates performance and facilities location. Data is updated regularly to ensure that you have the most relevant and timely information for your area.

The application also includes a fully integrated Geographical Information System mapping tool and supports travel time analysis.

Access to the SHAPE Place Atlas is free to NHS professionals and Local Authority professionals with a role in Public Health or Social Care. Access to the application is by formal registration and licence agreement.
