Welcome

NHS Networks is where clinicians, managers, leaders, innovators, Board members, policy makers, as well as patients and communities can all contribute to - and learn from - new thinking and new practice.

Arachnid parent seeks family reunion

The animal kingdom has plenty of examples of prolific breeders that spend more time on output than nurture, that spawn numerous offspring but kick them out of the family home as soon as possible and move on to the next batch.

Think of the spider, for example, whose short life is almost entirely devoted to advancing the interests of the species.

NHS Networks is rather like that. Without labouring the procreative analogy, our role is to help you enter the world in good shape, then leave you to find your own way in it.

Once in a while, even arachnids feel the need to take stock, assess their impact on the evolutionary process and decide what they might do differently. This is not driven by an emotional need but a practical one.

If we are not doing the right things we will not survive. To quote Charles Darwin: “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.”

In that spirit we will be contacting every one of the 551 networks on the register in the next few weeks to find out how you are – and in some cases if you are. (As with other prolific species, our breeding programme is designed to compensate for – how can we put this delicately? – the occasional genetic coding error and an unsympathetic natural world.)

We will be sending a brief questionnaire to find out what more we can help you do to develop your networks, share intelligence and improve your overall performance as a sub-species. We are particularly keen to find out how we can use networking technology to reduce the effort and increase the effectiveness of your communications – both in how you connect to your fellow members and how you connect with the wider world.

It is not the arachnid way to be sentimental, but there are evolutionary principles at stake here, so we will be in touch.

The next New@Networks will be sent out on 9 April.
