Grown Up Congenital Heart Disease (GUCH)

Grown Up Congenital Heart Disease (GUCH)

Grown Up Congenital Heart Disease (GUCH) relates to an abnormality of the heart that is present from birth.

The heart does not develop properly pre-birth and this can lead problems with the forming of the heart valves and, in some cases, a hole developing in the chambers of the heart.

Treating GUCH can require a course of medication and in some cases surgery. The Network works closely to support cardiologists and cardiac surgeons who carry out procedures on patients who suffer from GUCH.

Patients who suffer from a congenital heart defect can often lead full and active lives and advances in the treatment of this disease are allowing more and more congenital heart disease suffereres to survive for much longer compared with previous decades.
