course: Introduction to Clinical Trials
York, October 2008, some subsidy available
The York Trials Unit, University of York, is running a five day event with two linked courses.
The aim of the courses is to equip participants with the basic skills and knowledge for designing, conducting and analysing randomised controlled trials. The courses should be of interest to nurses, doctors and allied health professional who are interested in conducting a randomised controlled trial.
Introduction to Statistics for Clinical Trials - 6 & 7 October 2008
Aims of the course:

Introduce participants to statistics for clinical trials.

Participants should gain a basic understanding of the statistics used in the analysis of clinical trial data and their interpretation.
Introduction to the Design & Conduct of Clinical Trials - 8, 9 & 10 October 2008
Aims of the course - participants should:

Gain an understanding of the fundamental considerations in designing and conducting a trial.

Gain an understanding of how a poorly designed trial can result in bias.
-
Know how to maximise recruitment to trials.
-
Know how to develop a protocol.
-
Know how to select and design questionnaires and how to maximise response rates.
-
Know how to store and manage data.
-
Know which statistics are appropriate for analysing various data sets.

Be aware of current approaches to Research Governance and ethics committees.
As part of its support for increasing research capacity within CPD4 Health Innovation, the White Rose and Yorkshire Forward are sponsoring subsidised places (delegate pays £200) on the three-day course. This is only for people located in the Yorkshire and Humberside region.
