Northern Ireland Cancer Network (NICaN)

Information

The Northern Ireland Cancer Network is working towards the continuous improvement in cancer care and cancer survival for the people of Northern Ireland. It aims to promote equitable provision of high quality, patient focused and clinically effective cancer services.

The way in which this will be achieved is by supporting groups of health professionals, patients and voluntary sector representatives to work together in a co-ordinated way across geographical, organisational and professional boundaries. This is what is known as a 'managed clinical network'.

NICaN’s primary objective will be to build the foundations for the development and sustainability of the managed clinical network. Establishing effective channels of communications is one such building block and the Lead Team has been engaging with clinicians across the region and other relevant stakeholders.

The underpinning values of NICaN’s work are to:
• Create a person centred service
• Secure user involvement
• Recognise need for cultural change
• Encourage joint up working
• Recognise teamwork is essential
• Focus on population health/well being
• Encourage clinically effective treatment
