Scottish Paediatric Epilepsy Network

Information

Connects organisations and professionals across Scotland working with epilepsy in children

The main purpose of the network is to promote and facilitate more effective working across all organisations, professions and disciplines delivering epilepsy care in order to ensure equity of access to high quality evidence based services throughout the journey of care for epilepsy. The network is integrating services for epilepsy by developing structured links and protocols across primary, secondary and tertiary care. One of the key outputs of the network will be the development of a web based system for the management of patients already diagnosed with epilepsy, and for patients presenting with first seizures.

The Scottish Paediatric Epilepsy network is a national managed clinical network including all 15 of Scotland's health boards. The development phase began in March 2004 with an open meeting in Perth. From this meeting 4 working groups were formed to take forward the various elements of the MCN work. Funding was awarded from the Scottish Executive for a two year development period and a Network Manager came into post in September 2004. The structure of the Network was developed and links were made with the National Services Division
