North East London HIV & Sexual Health Network (NELNET)
Sexual Health and HIV across the North East of London.
The North East London HIV & Sexual Health Clinical Network (NELNET) was established in 2003 to support clinicians, commissioners and other health professionals in meeting the HIV and sexual health needs of North East Londoners. North East London has a diversity of communities from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and cultural beliefs. There are high levels of deprivation, increasing rates of teenage pregnancies, HIV and sexually transmitted infections.
By strengthening the links between services, and bringing commissioners and providers together, NELNET has been able to support services and Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) in confronting many of these challenges. NELNET now needs to embrace the opportunities of further service modernisation in light of the Healthcare for London review, advances in testing technology and workforce development, while continuing to put the needs and views of service users centre stage.
