Academic Clinical Oncology and Radiobiology Research Network (ACORRN)
The Academic Clinical Oncology and Radiobiology Research Network (ACORRN) is a new National Cancer Research Institute initiative, funded by Cancer Research UK, the Medical Research Council and the Department of Health. Our aim is to develop radiotherapy research in the UK by networking and supporting individuals and groups, developing an integrated UK strategy and infrastructure to support this.
The UK research community will work together to rebuild a strong, competitive base. Currently 50% of cancer patients are treated with radiotherapy at some point in their management. Over the last ten years radiotherapy has seen one of the most rapid advances in technology and computerisation in any field of medicine. We are also moving closer to being able to optimise patient treatment based on our increased understanding of the genetics and biology of individuals and their tumours, and how these relate to prediction of treatment outcomes. The result of these advances is that more patients should now be cured of their cancer, with fewer treatment-related side effects.
ACORRN provides a wide range of services including its interactive website which features a database of essential information on current research being carried out the UK.
The database enables users quickly and easily to:
-
locate and contact National and International researchers
-
search for information on projects
-
develop projects on-line using the secure document storage facility
-
advertise job vacancies throughout the UK (this is a free service provided by ACORRN!)
The database will even alert users to information of interest by email.
ACORRN welcomes anyone who is interested in or working in radiotherapy research to join our growing network. Registration is via a simple online form and instantly gives access to the online resources.
Help revitalise radiotherapy research in the UK, join ACORRN today.
