Patient Safety Research Network
The focus of the network is on safety issues in primary care and at the interface between primary and secondary care. A team led by researchers from Manchester set up this research network in December 2003. There are over 60 network members, based abroad and in the UK, our focus is multidisciplinary with partners from academia, the NHS and policy organisations.
Funded by the Medical Research Council, the Economic and Social Research Council and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, with a start-up grant of £50,000 for two years, the network aims to increase the number of people and projects and the scope of research undertaken in patient safety. We are developing new partnerships with NHS service providers to ensure practical relevance of our R&D outputs.
The network builds on the existing expertise in patient safety research in Manchester. We use a range of innovative networking techniques to develop specific research project proposals. Collaboration between academic and service organisations locally is key to the network's success.
