Paediatric Anaesthetic Network (PAN)
Membership of the Paediatric Anaesthetic Network (PAN) includes the lead anaesthetists for paediatric anaesthesia from all the Trusts within the West Midlands and the wider ‘Partners in Paediatrics’ area - which includes Cheshire and Merseyside.
The Network is co-chaired by one representative from a specialist Children’s Hospital and one from a District General Hospital (DGH). The current co-chairs are:
Dr Imogen Billingham, Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist at Alder Hey Hospital, and Dr Richard Crombie, Consultant Anaesthetist at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust.
The main aims of the Paediatric Anaesthetic Network are to:
-
Address the issues relating to the safe delivery of paediatric anaesthetic services across the region and partnership area
-
Ensure a comprehensive quality service dedicated to the care of all paediatric patients;
-
Develop educational packages dedicated to meeting the training and developmental needs of all staff
Standards:
The Group has developed a set of Standards for the delivery of anaesthesia to children. These Standards have been used in conjunction with those set out in the Standards of Care of Critically Ill and Critically Injured Children in the West Midlands and are used in the ‘Peer Review’ process.
Recommendations for Acute Pain Management in Children
Members of the Network have developed this generic document which can be used by individual trusts. These guidelines provide direction to medical and nursing staff on the safe and effective relief of acute pain and postoperative nausea and vomiting. They also provide analgesic recipes, contact details and reference sources.
