North West Stroke Task Force
The incidence, prevalence and mortality of stroke in the North West Region is amongst the highest in the country, Liverpool and Manchester having the highest mortality rates, for the under 65s (age standardised), within the region. The North West Region has been proactive in trying to tackle this Public Health problem and has set up a North West Stroke Task Force.
The aim of the Stroke Task Force is to raise the profile of quality stroke care through:
-
Increasing the profile of stroke prevention and management within Primary Care Trusts and Acute Trusts.
-
Dissemination of evidence based standards for stroke management to Health Authorities, Primary Care Trusts and Acute Trusts.
-
Working in areas of high mortality to try to improve prevention and management of stroke, particularly in those areas where stroke mortality rates are rising.
