Stroke Northumbria Network
This network is for staff working across the services making up Stroke Northumbria: Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, North Tyneside Primary Care Trust, Northumberland Care Trust, North Tyneside Council as well as voluntary organisations.
Stroke Northumbria represents an integrated approach to caring for people with stroke across the whole health and social care system. It includes Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest geographical trusts in the country, providing healthcare to over half a million people from Tyneside to the Scottish border and to Hexham and Haltwhistle in the west of the county. Acute care is provided on all three District General Hospital sites with continued rehabilitation in five community hospitals. North Tyneside PCT and Northumberland Care Trust are the Primary Care Organisations. In addition the service relies on the support of North Tyneside Council and the voluntary sector to provide seamless care and ongoing support for people with stroke and their families.
In any year Stroke Northumbria would expect to see 1,000 people with new stroke events and 200 recurrences of stroke. 3,000 people will be living with the consequences of stroke, 1,500 of whom will face significant levels of disability in the long term.
