This report highlights the significant role played by the older person's own home.
A suitable place to live can mean independence for far longer; it can prevent the need for residential care; it can reduce requirements for care at home; it can mean fewer accidents and hospital admissions; and it can allow people to leave hospital much earlier, with less risk of immediate readmission. It also looks at the obstacles to getting assistance with basic home improvements, or domiciliary help unless care needs are absolutely critical and makes recommendations to overcome these difficulties.
