National Learning Forum

The forum consists of the SHA Leads for NHS Learning Accounts and the performance management of the Department of Health funding and targets. The group also works with key partners on championing learning for the wider workforce.

The Forum has been in existence since the launch of the NHS Learning Account Scheme in 2001.

The scheme was established to deliver the NHS Plan promise to improve access to learning opportunities for those staff who do not require to be on a professional register to practice.

Whilst the main aim has been to manage the Department of Health allocations to support this work, the network has worked with others on widening participation to learning on a range of areas, including NVQs and Language Literacy and Numeracy programmes. We have also tried to link this agenda to national drivers for change in the NHS.

Our current aim is to ensure the history of this work is captured, to ensure the agenda has a role in supporting the delivery of Creating a Patient-Led NHS.
